On 23 October 2026, the last possible day, a petition to declare the elections or voting invalid in the market town of Větrný Jeníkov in the Jihlava District was delivered to the court. According to Jihlavská Drbna, it is not yet known whether the petition challenges the elections or voting as a whole, or only the election of a particular candidate. According to the daily, the petitioner is a former councillor who did not win a seat on the council this year.[1][2]
Impact on the inaugural meeting
Martina Ochodnická, the market town's former mayor and an MP, said on social media that if the petition is aimed against the elections or voting as a whole, the inaugural council meeting will not be held until the court rules. If it challenges only the election of a particular candidate, that alone does not block the meeting. The court has twenty days to decide, so the decision should come no later than 12 November 2026.[1]
Mayor Pavel Koníř said that he has no further information from the court and has not been in contact with the petitioner. Ochodnická recalled that the elections were also challenged in 2018 by two petitioners; the court then rejected both petitions as unfounded, and the inaugural meeting was therefore postponed to 21 November 2018.[1][2]
