In October 2026 Mariánské Lázně completed a path for pedestrians and cyclists from the city district of Úšovice to Skláři. The route is almost two kilometres long and, according to Czech Radio, cost 22.5 million korunas, which the town paid from its own budget.[2]
Construction
The path runs along the road past an avenue of lime trees. According to mayor Martin Hurajčík (ANO), excavation work near the trees had to be done by hand so that the limes would not be damaged. For the same reason the structural layers of the path are shallower and the surface drains water well. The project documentation cost approximately 250,000 korunas.[1][2] In one section the path is separated from the road by a railing that the traffic police required.[1]
The mayor said that until now residents, children and cyclists had walked and ridden on a road with a large amount of car traffic, whereas now the road and the path are separated.[1][2] Construction work continues on a pavement intended to allow people from Stavební mlýn to cross Plzeňská Street safely.[1][2]
Background
About 170 people live in Skláři, which is part of Mariánské Lázně. The town considered a path more than ten years ago, but the project could not be carried out at that time because of the lack of space between the road, the lime avenue and private land; according to iDNES, the traffic police insisted on concrete barriers.[1][2] The town and the region plan in the longer term to extend the path and connect it to cycle paths near Chodová Planá in the Plzeň Region.[1][2]
