On 9 October 2026 the Prague 4 borough announced that from 15 October it will begin gradually changing the system of paid parking zones, including operating hours and some of the purple zones.

The Prague 4 borough announced on Friday 9 October 2026 that from Thursday 15 October it will begin gradually changing the system of paid parking zones. The information came from the town hall spokesman Aleš Berný [1][2].
What is changing
The zones are to apply from Sunday 17:00 to Friday 17:00. Visitors will thus pay at night as well, whereas parking after 20:00 was previously free. Some of the mixed purple zones will become blue zones, intended for residents. In the affected sections a uniform operating time will apply: Monday to Thursday 00:00 to 24:00, Friday 00:00 to 17:00 and Sunday 17:00 to 24:00 [1][2].
Procedure and deadlines
The signage will first be replaced in parts of Podolí and Nusle, with other areas to follow. Replacing the signage will take until spring 2027 [1][2].
Transport councillor Jaroslav Míth (ODS) said that the change is meant to benefit the borough's residents as much as possible. According to him it takes into account long-term experience and residents' suggestions, as well as the experience of the other boroughs that operate within the zone system [1][2].
Survey on further zones
In the same week the Prague 4 town hall launched a questionnaire survey on a possible extension of the zones to further localities: Hodkovičky, Novodvorská, Dolní Krč, Tempo, Krč and Old and New Spořilov. Until 30 October residents can say whether preparation of zones should begin and under what conditions, or whether zones should be established at all [1][2].
Background
Paid parking zones in their present form were first introduced in Prague in 1996 in part of Prague 1. As of October 2026 they operate in Prague 1 to 10, 13, 16 and 22. Three colours are distinguished: orange serves short-term visitor parking of up to two hours, purple is mixed for residents and visitors, and blue is intended mainly for residents. In the territory of Prague 4, zones were first introduced in selected places in 2018 and 2019 [1][2].
