The hockey club Berani Zlín dismissed the coaching staff that had been led by coach Oremus. The dismissal also applies to the assistants Richard Kapuš and Martin Hamrlík and goalkeeping coach Luboš Horčička. Antonín Stavjaňa became the new head coach.[1][2]

The club said the course of the season so far does not meet its expectations. In the current season the team went through a series of eight defeats and has won 18 of a possible 54 points. It last lost on 28 October 2026 in Tábor, 1:2 after overtime.[2] The previous coaching staff led Berani in the 2025/2026 season to the final of the Maxa liga, in which Zlín lost to Jihlava.[1][2] General manager Jan Pravda thanked the coaches for their work and called the run to the final exceptional.[1]

The sixty-three-year-old Stavjaňa previously played for Zlín and repeatedly coached its first team. In 2004, when the club won the title, he was sports manager. He is a two-time world champion and won four Czech extraliga titles with Vsetín. As a coach in Slovakia he led Nitra, with which he won championship titles in 2016 and 2024 and the Continental Cup in 2023, and he also worked in Trenčín, Slovan Bratislava, Košice and most recently Zvolen. In the top Czech competition he coached, besides Zlín, Třinec and Karlovy Vary, and in the first league České Budějovice.[1][2]

Lubomír Vosátko, who has so far worked in the club academy and in the current season coached the juniors, will be assistant to the head coach. Martin Vojtek, a former extraliga goalkeeper who in the academy works on goalkeeper development across the youth categories, will be in charge of the goalkeepers. Sports manager Jaroslav Balaštík said the club needed a team that could take over the squad immediately and knows the Zlín environment.[1][2]
