The Catholic Theological Faculty is a faculty of Charles University whose leadership was the subject of a dispute over the dismissal of dean Jaroslav Brož in 2025 and 2026.

The Catholic Theological Faculty is part of Charles University (UK).[1]
Dispute over the dismissal of the dean
Jaroslav Brož headed the faculty from May 2024. The then rector of Charles University, Milena Králíčková, dismissed him from the post on the proposal of the academic senate in February 2025 and a second time in summer 2025. The academic senate reproached him with ten shortcomings, for example that after staff changes the faculty had not ensured the study programme History of European Culture in line with its accreditation.[1]
Because of the uncertainty over the leadership of the faculty, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports temporarily placed it under forced administration. Brož returned to the post in March 2026, when the Supreme Administrative Court of the Czech Republic granted suspensive effect to his cassation appeal.[1]
The Municipal Court in Prague had originally rejected Brož's lawsuit against the dismissal. On 29 September 2026 the Supreme Administrative Court upheld his cassation appeal and ordered the municipal court to reassess the legitimacy of the grounds for the dismissal anew and as a whole. The decision does not mean that Brož is confirmed as dean again. Brož said it was an important legal satisfaction for him, and the university leadership wants to study the judgment first.[1][2] The course of the decision is described in the article Upholding of Jaroslav Brož's cassation appeal by the Supreme Administrative Court of the Czech Republic.
