On 26 September 2026, a Brno police patrol detained a man at Tomkovo náměstí in Brno who had escaped from serving a prison sentence.[1][3] According to spokesman Petr Vala, the man was a prisoner who, shortly after 2 a.m. on 5 September 2026, had willfully left an unguarded workplace on Mlýnská ulice, where he had been working as part of his sentence.[1][3] After his identity was confirmed through a records check, the man was deprived of his personal liberty, taken to the Brno-sever police station, and subsequently transferred to the Brno remand prison.[1][3] According to Deník, the man was a thirty-year-old from Opava who was detained shortly after midnight.[2]*
Escape from the workplace
Both men were serving their sentences at Kuřim Prison and, as part of this, were going to work at a company on Mlýnská ulice in Brno.[2][4] According to police, the company's premises were fenced but unguarded.[2] Police spokeswoman Andrea Cejnková stated that the two men managed to escape from the premises on 5 September 2026.[2]
Ongoing search
Police are still searching for the second escaped man, a thirty-five-year-old prisoner from Prostějov.[1][2][3][4] The man is 176 centimeters tall, has a slim build, blue eyes, and a beard trimmed into a goatee.[1][3][4] According to police, he is not armed or dangerous and does not suffer from any contagious disease.[2] Anyone with information about his whereabouts or movements is asked to call the emergency line 158.[1][3][4]
