České středohoří is a volcanic mountain range in northern Bohemia whose highest peak is Milešovka. It was formed by volcanic activity in the Tertiary period.[1]

The České středohoří Protected Landscape Area lies within the range and extends into the Ústí nad Labem Region and the Liberec Region.[1][2][3] The statutory city of Ústí nad Labem says it lies in the heart of this area, which is dominated by the Elbe valley with Porta Bohemica, known as the Gateway to Bohemia. The landscape consists of the conical hills of long-extinct volcanoes.[3] Adenophora liliifolia (lily-leaved ladybell), a rare plant with pale blue bell-shaped flowers, grows in Czech nature at about five sites, including the Babinské louky meadows in the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area, with roughly 500 plants in total. [4]

On 12 October 2026, conservationists were to plant another 84 Adenophora liliifolia plants near Malečov in the Ústí nad Labem area, in cooperation with the Botanická zahrada Teplice botanical garden in Teplice, said Karolína Šůlová of the Agentura ochrany přírody a krajiny. [4]
