Zemědělská společnost Stará Říše is an agricultural business in the form of a limited liability company. According to public registers, it has 39 partners and farms more than 1,000 hectares of fields and meadows.[1]
The company runs a pig farm in Markvartice in the Jihlava area, where, according to the company's representative, 120 sows and 80 gilts with piglets are kept. The police escorted 24 people out of the premises, released them after carrying out the necessary procedures and said they were suspected of a misdemeanour. [1] Police spokeswoman Michaela Lébrová said it was not ruled out that the legal assessment of the conduct could still change. [1] On 27 September 2026, activists protesting against the use of farrowing crates for sows entered the farm premises in Markvartice. [1]
A spokeswoman for the protesters said the activists wanted to draw attention to farrowing-crate farming in a non-violent way, with photographs and banners reading “Legal does not mean moral”. [1]
The company's representative said that by entering the farrowing house the activists had violated the veterinary act, and pointed to the risk of introducing African swine fever. [1]
