Vojenské lesy a statky České republiky, abbreviated VLS, is a state enterprise. Its director is Petr Král and its spokesman is Petr Toman.[1] According to Král, the enterprise's annual turnover is CZK 3.4 billion, of which about CZK 250 million goes into investment.[1][2]

Cattle breeding

The enterprise keeps about 3,500 head of cattle. Roughly half are in the Doupov Mountains; other herds are located, for example, in the South Bohemian Region and in the Olomouc Region.[1][2]

The Javorná facility

On 19 October 2026, VLS opened a facility for organic cattle farming in Javorná in the Karlovy Vary Region. The automated barn for rearing young cattle cost about CZK 40 million, which the enterprise paid from its own funds. It can house 150 to 200 young heifers with free access to the surrounding pastures. It uses robotic technology for bedding and for pushing feed closer, and its operation can be monitored and controlled remotely.[1][2]

The facility also includes a space with utility connections where a mobile container slaughterhouse can be brought in. Král said that in emergencies the enterprise would supply cattle to the Czech Armed Forces, and in his view the space could serve as a basis for the army's food self-sufficiency. According to Toman, some of the robotic and technological solutions are only being tested at the facility, and if they prove successful, similar equipment could be built at other sites.[1][2]
