On 20 October 2026, the construction site for the replacement of public lighting was handed over in the park on Kampa Island in Prague 1. The same day also included a geodetic survey of the individual luminaire positions [1][2]. The investor and builder of the project is the company Technologie hlavního města Prahy, a.s. (THMP) [1].

Scope of the work

The existing public lighting throughout the park is to be replaced by luminaires of the "Pražská lucerna" type [1]. The work also includes renewal of the cable lines [1]. According to the plan, the replacement is to proceed with as little interference with the running of the park as possible and with minimal restrictions for visitors [1]. The whole project is to take approximately seven weeks, depending on the weather [1].

Financing

The costs of the new lamps and related work will be paid by the Capital City of Prague [1]. It is a separate investment project included in the city's 2026 schedule, for which funds have already been set aside [1]. According to iDNES.cz, the total price is to be approximately 6 million crowns [2].

Connection with the revitalisation of the park

The lighting replacement precedes the planned revitalisation of the whole Kampa park, the preparation of which was delayed by a review of the public contract at the Úřad pro ochranu hospodářské soutěže [1]. This proceeding was concluded with legal effect in September 2026, and the office confirmed the procedure of Prague 1 [1][2]. The start of the revitalisation is expected in the first months of 2027 [1].

According to iDNES.cz, the revitalisation plan is to preserve the appearance of the park and focus on renewing worn parts, adding new elements, adjusting places where pedestrians and cyclists meet, repairing paths and treating greenery [2]. Neither a promenade nor seating steps by the Čertovka are to be built, nor a permanent stage or open-air scene [2]. The contractor for the revitalisation is to be the Konsorcium park Kampa, with which Prague 1 is still negotiating the schedule [2].
