Brno Zoo brought a new Sumatran tiger from a zoo in Krefeld, Germany, at the end of September 2026. Zoo spokesman Jan Bedřich said on 18 October 2026 that the big cat had adapted to its new surroundings quickly. Visitors have been able to see it since the first week after arrival, and it often rests by the glass and watches people. The zoo is adjusting the way it is made accessible according to the animal's behaviour.

Keepers want to let the tiger into the outdoor enclosure for the first time in the following week; the enclosure has been adapted to offer stimuli for movement and exploration.

The zoo is also negotiating the arrival of a female from Indonesia. According to the spokesman, the process is complicated and time-consuming, requires international and diplomatic negotiations, and the export of the animal must be approved by Indonesia, so the date of arrival is not known. The aim is to create conditions in Brno for breeding and possible rearing of cubs, which according to the zoo would contribute to preserving the species. The Sumatran tiger lives in the wild only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra and is among the most endangered big cats.
