In 2026 the Brno festival Prototyp was held for the first time as a route of light installations and video mappings across the city centre.

The Prototyp festival in Brno offered nearly twenty light installations, two video mappings, projections and interactive works in 2026 [1]. Instead of a single main venue, the organisers created a route through the city centre, with the works placed in squares, in parks and on historic buildings from Zelný trh to Špilberk Castle [1]. Visitors walked the route at their own pace, and most of the outdoor installations were free [1].
The main points of the programme were video mappings by the Spanish studio Desilence on the façade of the Grandezza hotel and by the Czech group Metanoia on the Nová radnice building. In the interior of the Gothic Church of St. James, the audiovisual show Path of Light, created for that space, took place [1].
The festival has been held in Brno since 2014, when it began as a student project on the border of art, science and technology. The programme consists of light and audiovisual installations, performances, interactive works and educational events, and according to Deník hundreds of authors from more than twenty countries have presented work over the festival's history. It is organised by the Brno creative studio VISUALOVE [1].
Festival director Jan Machát said the aim was for people to meet art directly in the city, and that light, projection and digital technology make it possible to show familiar places in a different way and to bring contemporary art closer to those who would not go to a gallery [1].
