A police car broke through the railing of Hlávka Bridge in Prague on 10 October 2026 and fell into the Vltava.

On 10 October 2026 at about 8:00, a police car in Prague broke through the railing of Hlávka Bridge and fell into the Vltava.[1][2] The cause of the accident has not been established and police are investigating the circumstances, said police spokesman Jan Rybanský.[1] According to Echo24, police are also looking into what preceded the accident, among other things whether the car was chasing anyone, and are waiting until the officers taken to hospital are able to give statements. [4] According to Novinky.cz, the accident was recorded by a camera, and the footage shows that the car skidded on the tram tracks before the fall. [3]

Two people were in the car, a man and a woman. According to Jana Poštová, head of the medical operations centre, paramedics treated three people suffering from hypothermia, who were uninjured and not in danger of death.[1][2] According to Poštová, a witness saw the accident and jumped into the water to help the officers.[1][2] On 10 October 2026 the police thanked him on Facebook, asked him to contact the 158 line and said they would like to thank him in person as well.
