On 5 October 2026 Prague city councillors included the complete reconstruction of Hall 18 in the Holešovická tržnice in the investment plan. The estimated budget for the project documentation and construction work is roughly 260 million korunas excluding VAT, and the reconstruction is to last until 2032. The hall used to house the Showpark brothel; offices could be created there, and a city police station is to remain. [1][2]

Rationale

The inclusion was requested by the city-owned company Výstaviště Praha, which operates the market. According to the explanatory report, since Showpark ceased operating, most of the space is hard to lease because of its technical condition, the occupancy approval and the fire-safety solution, and partial repairs would be financially unprofitable. For technical reasons, for example the linked heating and ventilation, the operator says the whole hall must be reconstructed at once. [1][2]

Councillor Adam Zábranský (Czech Pirate Party) said that if the project makes it into next year's budget, the project documentation would be prepared in 2027. According to an economic study, Výstaviště Praha expects an annual income of about 12 million korunas from leasing the reconstructed hall; at present it is about 2.5 million. [1][2]

Earlier developments

Výstaviště Praha took over the market premises in 2022 and called on the operator of the brothel to leave. The operator had long been in a court dispute with the city over the validity of the lease and left the premises in January 2026 after a bailiff ordered the eviction. [1][2]
