The pathology and genetics laboratories of the company EUC officially opened on 22 October 2026 in new premises in the centre of Ostrava in the Moravian-Silesian Region. According to the daily Deník, their novelty is the Cobas prime robot, which prepares samples for HPV tests used to detect the virus linked to cervical cancer.[1]
According to an interview published by the daily, the premises were completely renovated from March to the end of September 2026, after which the laboratories moved. The move took just under a month and operations did not stop; part of the material was temporarily transferred to three branches. The reason for the change was a lack of space in the original buildings. The new premises are about 500 square metres larger, and the laboratories are now together on one floor, whereas they previously occupied three buildings.[1]
The laboratories employ one hundred people, among them doctors, pathologists, laboratory technicians in histopathology, molecular genetics and cytogenetics, administrative staff and drivers of the company's own courier service, which carries samples from clients. The genetics laboratory was established in 2001. Most samples are tumours, but hereditary risk of cancer is also examined, for example changes in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.[1]
