Nová scéna is one of four stages under the artistic management of the National Theatre. The others are the National Theatre, the State Opera and the Estates Theatre [1]. The National Theatre consists of four artistic ensembles: Opera, Drama, Ballet and Laterna magika. [1] The National Theatre is established by the Ministry of Culture. [1]
The repertoire of Nová scéna consists mainly of performances by Laterna magika and the Drama ensemble, in part also of the Opera and Ballet, and of a number of original projects [1]. The preamble of the statute describes the National Theatre as one of the symbols of national identity and as part of the European cultural space. [1]
The National Theatre is based at Ostrovní 225/1 in Prague 1 and is a member of Opera Europe, FEDORA and the European Theatre Convention. [1] The statute of the National Theatre describes the institution as the representative stage of the Czech Republic. [1] The National Theatre is also a member of the Dance Europe Network, the Association of Dance Artists of the Czech Republic and the Association of Professional Theatres. [1]
