Mikoláš Aleš (1852–1913) was a Czech painter; a Prague embankment bears his name, and the stained-glass window of ploughing and hunting in the Industrial Palace at Výstaviště Praha was made from his design.

Mikoláš Aleš (1852–1913) was a Czech painter.[1] At the entrance to the house on Karmelitská Street in Malá Strana, where the painter lived, there is a memorial plaque to him. [4]

Alšovo nábřeží

An embankment in Prague in the Old Town has borne his name since 1919. The name is connected with the academy of painting, today the Vysoká škola uměleckoprůmyslová, which operated on this embankment from 1885 and had its own building there from 1902.[1]

Industrial Palace

On the side facade of the left wing of the Industrial Palace at Výstaviště Praha there was a painted oval stained-glass window with the motif of ploughing and hunting, made from a design by Aleš. A fire destroyed it on 16 October 2008, and its exact appearance was not known. The city was able to restore it thanks to a photograph it obtained through a public appeal.[2][3] The reconstruction of the palace was completed in September 2026 and included the restoration of more than 2,300 square metres of stained glass.[2]
