Martin Půta is the governor of the Liberec Region.[2]

In the 2026 Senate election he ran for SLK in district no. 36 Česká Lípa, where five candidates competed for the seat.[2][3] After more than 80 percent of polling districts had been counted, he had 32.73 percent of the vote and advanced to the second round, in which he will face Jitka Volfová (ANO), who had 35.14 percent.[2] Turnout was just under 40 percent.[2] The second round is scheduled for 16 and 17 October 2026.[1]

The incumbent senator Jiří Vosecký, who has sat in the Senate since 2014, did not retain his seat. According to Novinky.cz, he left SLK after losing the primaries to Půta and ran as an independent.[3] After the count, Půta said he believed in success in the second round, because SLK, in his words, represents the interests of people in the region rather than those of party headquarters.[1]
