On 7 October 2026 the band Olympic launched its compilation album 21 nej in Prague and presented a video for the new song Až to Stouni zabalí. The launch took place in a restaurant on Střelecký Island, to which the band members arrived by boat on the Vltava. The godfathers of the album were Lukáš Pavlásek and Michael Kocáb.[1]
The album
The album 21 nej (1965–2026) follows the compilation 12 nej from 1976. After fifty years, the motif of an alarm clock returns to the cover in a modernised form with multiplied dials. The selection has grown from the twelve original tracks to twenty-one, covering recordings from the mid-1960s through the Supraphon archive and work released under the Best I.A. label to more recent collaboration with Supraphon.[1][2][3] According to the band leader Petr Janda, the album 12 nej was withdrawn from sale after about two weeks because the lyricist of most of the songs, Pavel Chrastina, had emigrated to Australia.[2]
The song Až to Stouni zabalí
The twenty-first item is a new track created in collaboration between Petr Janda and Lukáš Pavlásek. Pavlásek wrote the lyrics and also appears in the lead role of the video. The song plays with the question of what would happen if the band The Rolling Stones ended their career, and at the same time comments on the longevity of Olympic itself.[1][2][3]
The band
Olympic was formed in 1962 under the name Karkulka and later renamed itself after a club in Spálená Street in Prague. It made its debut in 1968 with the album Želva, regarded as the first Czech beat long-playing record. The band released its latest studio album, Bombarďák, its twenty-third, in 2025. Of the current line-up, only Petr Janda took part in all the records; the band is further made up of bassist Milan Broum, drummer Martin Vajgl and keyboardist Pavel Březina.[1]
