Krajská nemocnice Tomáše Bati (KNTB), also called Baťova nemocnice in the press, based in Zlín, has joined the PARK project, which helps patients with Parkinson's disease.[1][2]

The PARK project

Within the project, the hospital's rehabilitation department offers education and regular exercise. According to the head physiotherapist Zuzana Strapková, the therapy focuses on mobility and balance, fall prevention, gait training and loosening of chest stiffness, and with occupational therapists the patients practise fine motor skills. The service is intended for patients in the early to middle stage of the disease. A recommendation from a neurologist or a general practitioner is required, said the hospital's spokeswoman Dana Lipovská.[1][2]

According to the reports, the project's staff, both medical and non-medical, underwent special training on Parkinson's disease. The neurologist and deputy head of the neurology department Petr Procházka welcomed the project; in his words, it is also meant to help patients in areas such as social needs or finding a speech therapist or psychologist. The hospital's neurologists currently care for about fifty regular patients with Parkinson's disease.[2]
