Jan Nadrchal is a Czech politician of the ANO movement and has been mayor of Pardubice since 2022. He has been active in local politics since 2014.

Political career

He first ran for the Pardubice city assembly for ANO in 2014 and did not win a seat. He then worked on committees of the city and of its fifth borough. In the 2018 local elections he won a seat in the assembly and became a member of the council of the Pardubice V borough.[1]

In January 2020 the assembly elected him deputy mayor under the then mayor Martin Charvát. He replaced Helena Dvořáčková, who had resigned at the end of 2019. His responsibilities were strategic development, subsidy policy and the environment.[1]

In 2022 Charvát decided not to run for mayor and stood for a seat in the Senate, so Nadrchal became the lead candidate of ANO. The movement won the election and, after a coalition was formed, Nadrchal became mayor; 21 of the 36 members present voted for him in the assembly.[1]

First term as mayor

Between 2022 and 2026 several investments were completed in Pardubice, among them the Arena Parking car park next to the Enteria Arena and the bus Terminál B. The city also extended its resident parking system. Criticism concerned transport, parking, the care of greenery and the town hall's communication with the public. The introduction of parking zone B was accompanied by objections to the organisation of traffic, and a change to the traffic arrangements near Palác Pardubice also prompted discussion. Traffic was restricted by extensive closures during the reconstruction of the Most Pavla Wonky bridge and the preparation of a replacement for the Most kapitána Bartoše bridge; a temporary crossing at the latter opened in September 2026 after its date had been postponed several times.[1]

2026 local elections

In the local elections of October 2026 Nadrchal headed the ANO list, which won in Pardubice with ten of 39 seats. ODS won seven seats, Žijeme Pardubice and STAN five each, Progresivní Pardubice and Naše Pardubice four each, and SPD and Noví lidovci two each.[3] Post-election talks and a vote in the assembly are to decide whether he remains mayor.[1]

The ANO movement announced cooperation with Žijeme Pardubice and with STAN before all votes had been counted. Nadrchal said that he saw probably the greatest overlap of programmes with STAN. According to Novinky.cz, such a coalition would have roughly 20 seats in the 39-member assembly.[4] The STAN leader Daniel Vondra then announced that the movement was leaving the planned coalition. Nadrchal subsequently said that he wanted to concentrate on talks with ODS and was not ruling out talks with Progresivní Pardubice either. He described a coalition of five groups without ANO as possible in terms of numbers, but, in his view, not necessarily logical.[3]

The next city leadership wants to review a contract for two Tesla cars for the city police, for which three million crowns were paid in advance. Nadrchal responded that if it had been a Škoda car, nobody would have dealt with it, and that the price could have been even higher.[2]
