Jan Hřebejk is a Czech film director. This entry summarises his public activities according to publications from autumn 2026.

Film and television work

According to the recollection of the screenwriter Petr Jarchovský, their joint screenplay Pějme píseň dohola, whose material drew on the experience of both authors with pioneer camps, was written in January 1989. Jarchovský says that Hřebejk arranged the collected anecdotes into a scene-by-scene outline. According to him, the film was shot only after 1989, in 1990, and the material was taken up by the director Ondřej Trojan.[1] Deník N conducted an interview with Hřebejk on the occasion of the television miniseries Na tělo, based on short stories by Martina Formanová, which Czech Television was broadcasting at the time of the interview.[2]

Debutik festival in Trutnov

Hřebejk is among the guests of the new Debutik film festival in Trutnov, which focuses on directorial debuts and second feature films. The inaugural edition carries the number 90 as a reminder of what would have been the ninetieth birthday of Václav Havel, and offers 22 screenings. On the idea of the festival, Hřebejk said that first films tend to be free and bold and that Czechia has not had such a festival before.[3]

Public statement

On 29 September 2026 Hřebejk commented on the social network X on the fact that opponents of some politicians go on spreading their posts and videos even when they share them with derision. Parlamentní listy published his post together with a list of the politicians whom Hřebejk named.[4]
