Flávio Bolsonaro is a Brazilian senator and presidential candidate who advanced to the second round of the election scheduled for 25 October 2026.

Flávio Bolsonaro is a Brazilian politician, a right-wing senator and a candidate in the 2026 presidential election. He is 45 years old, studied law, was elected to a regional parliament at the age of 21 and has been a federal senator since 2019.[1]

The 2026 presidential election

In the first round on 4 October 2026, according to results after 99 percent of the votes were counted, he received 47.22 percent and the incumbent president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva 44.94 percent. Nobody won a majority and the second round is scheduled for 25 October 2026.[2][3] According to the Reuters agency, his result exceeded most pre-election polls, which had predicted a Lula win in the first round by about three percentage points.[1]

In the campaign Bolsonaro promised radical budget cuts, lower taxes and a tough fight against crime.[1] After nearly all the votes were counted he told journalists that Brazil wants change and that he is very pleased with the result. He also announced the end of the era of Lula's Workers' Party.[1]
