The Central Bohemian regional councillors, who exercise the powers of the general meeting of Oblastní nemocnice Příbram, decided on 1 October 2026 to dismiss Petr Honěk from its board. According to Central Bohemian Region spokeswoman Zuzana Žídková, he left the post with immediate effect. [1] By being removed from board membership he also ceased to be its chairman, and the board is to elect a new chairman. [1]
Honěk spent many years in top management positions at the General Health Insurance Company of the Czech Republic, including as deputy director general, and in recent years headed its regional branch in Ústí nad Labem. He became chairman of the board of the Příbram hospital only recently, replacing at the head of the board a member dismissed by the general meeting in early May 2026. [1]
The decision is linked to a police investigation. At the end of September 2026 detectives carried out searches in the building of the General Health Insurance Company and at roughly ten pharmaceutical firms. They detained three people, including Honěk, and released all of them. No one was charged. [1][3] According to ČTK, the case concerns a suspicion of corrupt conduct connected with unauthorised handling of the insurer's health data. [1] Supervision of it is exercised by the Regional Public Prosecutor's Office in Ústí nad Labem. [3]
Honěk said that he had not been charged with anything, that he is convinced he did nothing unlawful or criminal at his former employer, and that he is ready to cooperate with the police. [1][3] According to its spokeswoman Viktorie Plívová, the insurer commissioned a review of its own internal processes after the raid and ruled out unauthorised handling of clients' personal data. [3]
Oblastní nemocnice Příbram announced that its regular operation and patient care are not changed by the dismissal. [1]
