According to Czech Television, police have charged Margita Balaštíková, who was a member of parliament for the ANO movement, on suspicion of interfering with inspections conducted by the Zlín regional hygiene station. According to Czech Television, police are prosecuting three people in the case, suspecting them of abuse of power by an official and of favoritism. The prosecution of the three individuals was confirmed to the Czech News Agency by Šárka Trnková, spokeswoman for the Zlín police. Balaštíková has repeatedly stated that she is innocent.[1][2]
Background
In the summer of 2025, Seznam Zprávy published recordings suggesting that Balaštíková had used her influence over the hygiene station's management to get inspectors to launch inspections at a business belonging to her former husband. Balaštíková said the recordings were fabricated. The ANO movement subsequently removed her from its candidate list for the parliamentary elections, and she announced that she would suspend her membership in the movement.[2]
