Asociace živá kultura is an association of literary magazines and organizers of literary events. The magazines that identify with it include A2, Host, iLiteratura.cz, Plav, Revolver Revue, Revue Prostor, Souvislosti and Tvar.[1]
In October 2026 the association, together with these magazines, published a statement titled "We are against the politics of censorship", in which it rejected a new condition of the Ministry of Culture for subsidies to literary magazines for 2027. It demands that the same wording of the conditions apply next year as for 2026 and that changes be consulted with cultural bodies in good time.[1][2]
Under the new wording of the call for the subsidy programme, general political news reporting and commentary on political events, as well as other political journalism whose main subject is not literature, literary culture or the arts, are not eligible. [1]
The ministry, headed by Oto Klempíř (for the Motorists), said on 29 October 2026 that the programme is not intended for general political journalism and rejected that it amounts to political censorship. [1]
The ministry also said that the magazines' earlier political commentary is not an automatic obstacle to receiving a subsidy, because what matters is what they want to publish in 2027. [1]
According to the association's statement, the ministry did not discuss the change to the call with the expert commission or the professional public, and the change comes two months before the start of the year for which the call is issued. [1]
In the statement the magazines did not dispute the ministry's right to set the purpose of subsidy programmes. [1]
