The Státní zemědělská a potravinářská inspekce (SZPI) stated on its Potraviny na pranýři website that the maximum residue limit of the pesticide quizalofop in Chinese cabbage from Kaufland was exceeded almost threefold. The inspectorate intends to open administrative proceedings with Kaufland to impose a fine.[1][2][3]
Inspectors took the sample on 11 August 2026. According to Blesk.cz, it was Czech-grown cabbage from the Kaufland store in Žatec, batch 3206, and the finding was published on 8 October 2026.[3]
Quizalofop is used to control certain weeds. Pesticides are generally used in agriculture to protect crops from moulds and from plant and animal pests. [2] According to news websites, the Státní zdravotní ústav says that consuming pesticide residues can have both acute and chronic effects.[1][2][3] Novinky.cz adds that short-term exposure to a high dose of pesticides can cause, for example, vomiting or headaches. [2] In the past the inspectorate also detected consignments of fruit and spices from Asia in which pesticide limits were exceeded up to a hundredfold. [2]
