Újezd nad Lesy
Újezd nad Lesy is a cadastral area in south-eastern Prague that forms the city district of Prague 21. The district lies on the border between the capital and the Central Bohemian Region. It is also one of Prague's 22 administrative districts and provides state administration for neighbouring Koloděje, Klánovice and Běchovice.[1]*
Territory and population
The district covers 1,015 ha, of which 516 ha is forest land.[1] At the end of 2024 it had 10,988 inhabitants.[3] The nearby Klánovice Forest was formerly called Vidrholec.[2]
History
The village arose in the second half of the 13th century along the road from Koloděje.[1] The first written record of Újezd dates from 1309. Around 1400 it was owned by the Prague burgher Martin Rotlev, and from 1623 it belonged to the Liechtensteins. During the Thirty Years' War it was plundered and burned and remained uninhabited for the next 140 years. Resettlement began in 1783, when Alois Joseph I of Liechtenstein had ten wooden houses built for ten German families. The local Church of St Bartholomew was demolished in 1804.[2]
For most of its history Újezd was part of Koloděje. It became a separate municipality on 7 August 1921, and on 7 February 1922 the Interior Ministry approved the name Újezd nad Lesy. The hamlet of Nová Sibřina was added in 1953. On 1 July 1974 Újezd nad Lesy, together with Běchovice, Klánovice and Koloděje, was incorporated into Prague and became part of the Prague 9 district.[1][2] The Rohožník housing estate was built in the 1980s.[2] The separate administrative district of Prague 21 was created in July 2001.[1]
September 2026
In September 2026 at least 240 children and ten adults at the Masaryk Primary School fell ill with digestive problems. Health officials confirmed salmonella in some of them. The school gave pupils days off and was fully disinfected.[4]
